Descubr\u00ed a Patricia Highsmith como un segundo curso en mi particular ciclo de iniciaci\u00f3n a la novela criminal (no se incluye en la ESO pero deber\u00eda). Si Agatha Christie representaba el polic\u00edaco cl\u00e1sico para principiantes y te pon\u00eda en el lugar del investigador amable y sabiondo, Highsmith se centraba en el criminal atormentado y err\u00e1tico<\/strong> o el delincuente por accidente<\/strong>. De esta manera me enganch\u00f3 en la adolescencia con relatos como los de Cr\u00edmenes imaginaros<\/em>, Rescate por un perro<\/em> y, por supuesto, Extra\u00f1os en un tren<\/em>, que encajaba a la perfecci\u00f3n en el mundo Hitchcock del que tambi\u00e9n he sido siempre fan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Tom Ripley, sin embargo, lo descubr\u00ed en el cine en la piel de Matt Damon (antes de ser la marca blanca de Tom Cruise), acompa\u00f1ado de Jude Law (antes de ser Papa) y de Gwyneth Paltrow (antes de vender velas con olor a partes \u00edntimas). La pel\u00edcula me fascin\u00f3 tanto que me lanc\u00e9 a por el libro, pero comet\u00ed el error de leerlo en versi\u00f3n original, cuando ten\u00eda un nivel de ingl\u00e9s que pasaba m\u00e1s tiempo descifrando vocabulario que resolviendo misterios. Por eso he decidido volver a leerlo ahora. No solo El talento de Mr. Ripley<\/strong><\/em>, sino tambi\u00e9n las secuelas que protagoniz\u00f3 el personaje, aprovechando la edici\u00f3n conjunta de las cinco novelas publicada por Anagrama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adem\u00e1s, a modo de postgrado, me he embarcado en el estudio de la propia autora. El podcast de Grandes infelices<\/mark><\/span><\/a><\/em>, que narra la vida de escritores un tanto desgraciados, y la novela gr\u00e1fica De otro planeta: las indecentes aventuras de Patricia Highsmith<\/em>, muestran a una escritora antip\u00e1tica, mis\u00f3gina, con un punto racista y clasista<\/strong>. Un cuadro de se\u00f1ora, vaya. Pero parece que aprovech\u00f3 su enfado con el mundo y sus traumas personales, para crear personajes torturados, con un particular sentido de la moral, y tramas retorcidas capaz de sorprender al lector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Es verdad que el g\u00e9nero de la novela negra ha evolucionado tanto, que al leer a Highsmith ahora, despu\u00e9s de toda la truculencia que hemos visto y le\u00eddo a estas alturas, encontramos cosas que pueden resultar ingenuas, o que nos parecen t\u00f3picas, pero hay que recordar que en muchos aspectos fue ella la que invent\u00f3 el t\u00f3pico<\/strong>. Hay que leer a Patricia Highsmith para saber de novela negra. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
